Data sources and methodology

BoilerStats is an independent tool using Purdue West Lafayette public grade data from BoilerGrades. The archive covers Summer 2016 through Spring 2026, with gaps and a source threshold of more than 10 students.

Historical grades are estimates, not a measure of teaching quality or a prediction of future outcomes. GPA excludes withdrawals and other non-letter grades. Section GPA averages section-row GPAs equally; student-weighted GPA pools letter-graded enrollment. Read the data source and methodology.

Instructor Score

Each eligible same-course, same-period GPA difference is multiplied by the instructor’s letter-graded enrollment. The total is divided by the number of eligible course-period comparisons. Periods without a peer instructor are excluded. Zero can mean no eligible comparisons.

Enrollment and grade counts can be inferred from published percentages. These are not official enrollment totals or credit-hour-weighted GPA. Course mixes and student preparation differ.
